Than Porter - Around Corners

A February Catchup

Looking back at the start of this month, S and I got to go out to a movie Friday night. We saw "Poor Things" and both enjoyed the movie and being out together.

The next day S had signed us up for a block printing class down in Waldoboro. It was put on by a young couple in a new coffee shop called Perch on the main drag in Waldoboro. Had a great few hours with random strangers who all had an interest in trying to attempt block printing. We came away with a couple of proofs on some cotton towels. It was nice to get out do some adult things for us and for me to try block printing for the first time.

That night we went out to dinner with Joe and Margaret to the new French restaurant in Union called Alsace. Had a great time being with them over a good dinner. Price tag seemed exorbitant. Some lamb chops, some schnitzel and some pasta dish. Again, this was a fun adult time to be out on the town. I don't think we'll be rushing back to Alsace. It was fun to have gone.

E was back at Colby this week for the first time since May. He got himself moved into an apartment suite downtown owned by the school. There are four of them in that apartment, and it seems to be going well. They cooked a salmon dish this Friday night. He is networking as usual. At school, he made the connection with his advisor around the caretaking position at Allen and Benner Islands.

A continues to thrive at Chewonki, and we hear from her a few times a week by phone. It's so nice to hear how positive she is and all the exciting stories she has to share.

On Tuesday, S and I went out to play basketball. It was just the two of us, and it was fun to shoot around. I was sort of testing out my knee, which has begun to swell once again. I'll see if I can get out there tomorrow. Seems to be swelling quite a bit now. I'm not sure what's causing it. Is it tendinitis or a Lyme disease connection? Probably should go to the doctor to get it identified.

E purchased his first car last week and he seems to be very pleased with it. He got a 2008 Subaru Outback station wagon silver gray color with 130,000 miles on it. Hoping it treats him well for his current driving needs.

Friday, we were invited down to Portland to stay with Aaron and Kate. We left after work and headed down for dinner and drinks on Congress Street. Drinks at a little spot called Novel, which is a coffee shop and cocktail bar with books for sale. Very happy and smooth little spot. Dinner was at Boda, and it was a hit, as it always is. We caught up with each other that night, and then the morning, after a delicious breakfast that Aaron put together, we had a lengthy walk along the waterfront around the east end back on down into the Bayside area where we located both the beer vendor and mattress vendor. S and I went in and bought a mattress for our bed. This will replace our current mattress, which is 30 years old. We then sat in the warm sunshine and sipped beer and chatted the afternoon away.

Now we are back home, and I took it easy as my knee has swelled up quite a bit. The temperatures were still warm and Maggie and I went out to Rebecca and I started a list of spring projects someone needs to work on. The boat is going in the water this year. S and I talked on this topic as I was thinking that we might keep the boat out of the water for the season. I do enjoy it but the costs are not helping our financial bottom line! But then again that is what the boating world is about. S was supportive and encouraging around the boat going in. Just money!
